A letter to Andrew…

A letter to Andrew,

A letter to Andrew, Jesus’ follower…

Why Andrew? Why did you suggest the little boy’s lunch in John 6:9? Jesus was about to feed five thousand hungry and tired people. There was no food in sight. He must have been looking for something substantive. Yes, something weighty. That was what Philip had thought. He felt eight months’ wages was not sufficient to feed that amount of crowd. But something must have sparked in you Andrew. You must have thought, ‘Wait a minute! This boy has five loaves and two fish.’ That lunch looked like something to you. Why? Many of us cannot see that. Many see little as little. Many see weak as weak. Many see empty as empty. But that boy’s lunch looked more than it really was to you. Even though it was tiny! Despite the fact that it could not satisfy. So what did you see Andrew? You must have had a spark of faith. That is what faith does. It suggests stupid things. It suggests weak things. It suggests little things. It suggests things that are not as though they are.

Is that what you saw Andrew? A spark of faith? That is what you saw! Well done Andrew for seeing the little lunch. I pray that I see the worth of the little too! Amen!

Yours sincerely,
