Brussels

Brussels

We have watched for 2 days the attacks and its aftermath in Brussels,Belgium. We watched harrowingly as people alighted from the train station covered in debris, bewilderment and anguish; we listened to that cell phone recording as a young child cried out also in despair and uncertainty at what life truly means now. The axle of evil seems to have been wielded again. Brussels City is often known as the trendy city to getaway to for the weekend. It is a bustling city with fine chocolate, fantastic eateries, opera houses, theme parks etc. Despite such enjoyment, you see the carnage and destruction that has resulted from the suicide bombing yesterday. An act birthed by a stream of various factors such as loss of identity, loss of almost person-hood, lack of opportunity, a twisted view of religion, a fermentation of hatred, a disconnect in the generational line, a refusal to take responsibility etc. All of these feeding factors will have to be addressed. The greatest desire of such people is that when they hit us, we will hate them and lash at them; and then they will hate us back and hit with greater force. And the cycle continues. The problem with this picture is that you cannot out hate hate with hate! And yet you can out hate hate with love! Not stupid love; smart love. Wise as a serpent, gentle as a dove, love. You know what I mean… The devil is an escalator of evil; he is an escalator of hate. We are God’s children. He should not be able to plant hate or escalate it in our hearts. That is why our response is key in the face of hate.

I am a firm believer that there is always a spiritual element to all we see. I believe there is always a spiritual first and natural second. And so in the midst of the mangle and the death and the burning and the hatred, let those who love God begin to think deeply about their responsibility to God and their nation. What does 2 Chronicles 7:14 say? If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The scripture did not speak of any other than God’s children. If you believe in Jesus Christ you have a responsibility to your fellow man and your country. Instead of us pointing fingers; dishing out blame; analyzing reasons; dissecting others’ wrong – let us do what God’s Word instructs us to do.

Humble yourself; seek God; turn from your wicked ways and make time to hear from God. God says He will hear our petition and heal our land. There is no way a suicide bomber can be successful when we are doing what we should be doing! God will protect us; God will guide us; God will let the enemy fall in hundred different places; God will make Him stumble; God will confuse the enemy; God will give us victory. Amen.

We pray for Brussels; we ask God to heal the nation. We ask God to draw their heart towards Him. We ask God to have mercy upon them. We ask God to break the plot of the enemy. We ask God to breathe on all the families affected, and comfort their hearts. We pray that God heal their land. We also pray that God protect all the nations of the world; bring revival to people’s hearts. Draw people close to Him. Reveal His righteousness to all.
