The power of truth

The power of truth

I was reading a book on spiritual generals; the book was focused on the reformers of the 14th century. I read about John Wycliffe; the reformer before other reformers. He stirred the pot of reformation. He planted the seed that others watered and in time harvested. I learned how he had a revelation of God while studying in Oxford, how he decided to rise against the lie of religion. He fought that all peoples be able to read the Bible – more so because the word of God is the truth. And without you yourself reading the truth, then you are totally reliant on someone else telling you the truth. What if they circumvented the truth? What if they chose to tell you lies for their own gain and divisiveness? This was what John Wycliffe fought against. The church circumvented the truth. The church lied for gain and power. They kept the people in the dark; they kept them in condemnation, because they had no vehicle of truth to go by. They charged the people for confessions, forgiveness, baptisms etc. Even the priests were so ignorant of the truth, and yet they kept teaching the people falsehoods and presented them as truths. It was a whole load of mockery of God’s truth.

The Bible says you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

It is amazingly incredulous to know that not many believers read their Bibles today. In fact not many read it everyday. It does not matter if you own a Bible. The question is do you read it? And if you are, is it changing you? What was fought and bled for, has become inconsequential today. Unfortunately there are still lies today; there are still post-truth being peddled by the church. The church is not free of its sin. So how will you know the truth yourself! There is no way to know God except we know His word. There is no way to have a close relationship with Him except we read of Him, and love Him for His truth in our lives. The Bible is true. And when we read His word, the Lord gives us a knowing. He awakes our spirit man which was once asleep. He sets him on fire and makes him alert and responsive. We do not read our Bibles with our mere eyes. We read with our hearts.

Are you reading the Bible with your heart? Is that your lifestyle? What is your lifestyle?

Oh, how sweet is it! Yes, how beautiful. Oh, how lovely. How glorious to read the word of God with your heart. John Wycliffe purposed that all have the opportunity to read the Bible themselves, that way they would know the truth and live by it! It is impossible to live by God’s word, without receiving it in your heart first. People died that you might get the chance to do this. I pray you know the worth of reading the word with your heart. Refuse a natural read. Ask God to help you read His word with your spirit man.
