The time of year

I love this time of the year. The electricity and excitement in the air, having expectations of what’s to come. Christmas can bring out the best in someone or the worst. I believe if our eyes are fixed on the true reason for the season then it will bring out the best in us. It is a time of year that gives us an opportunity to celebrate, love and serve. If we know the true One of Love then we will want to give good gifts and give of ourselves. It’s a time to reflect and embrace the first coming of our King. To engage in learning even more about the journey the Holy family took. To imagine and walk the road to Bethlehem with them.

Christmas is a time to see the power of God come in the form of a child and see prophecy fulfilled. A time to be in awe and wonder! Wonder how a child could love us so much and be in awe that He would one day die for us. From the rough, dusty terrain to a stable. Mary was in labor. Her heart must have sunk when there was no room at the Inn. Mary didn’t say to the Inn keeper “I’m carrying the Messiah!” Then demand he give her a room. Not only was our Lord brought into this world in humble surroundings, but He was carried by a humble woman. Why do you think she never told anyone that she was carrying the New Coming King? I think she questioned her worthiness and qualifications from time to time. She was a human being just like you and I. I’m sure she had her doubts and feared being criticized. But she stayed true and faithful to her assignment. All she had to do was carry and birth the Messiah! I’d be a little nervous, wouldn’t you!

Oh how I love Christmas! Such purity, mystery and triumph in the true story of Christmas. So much love in the true meaning of Christmas. My heart breaks for those who do not have a personal relationship with the Savior. They don’t know what they are missing. Those who are miserable at Christmas need to have a true encounter with the Lover of their soul. So be kind to all you meet everyday and especially at Christmas. You may be the only idea of Jesus they meet. First impressions last a lifetime. Just look at our Savior for example. His spirit trumped His circumstances at His birth! Even the animals knew to bow down. Like Mary carried Jesus during the Christmas season, be a Mary and carry Christ within you and maybe you will help birth new life in someone else’s heart!
