What does salvation have to do with our lifestyle?

What does salvation have to do with our lifestyle?

Salvation is what we get from our God when we give our lives to Christ. When you accepted Jesus into your life, you received a promise from the Lord. Salvation is a promissory note that we will spend eternal life with our Lord. It is surely a great thing to look forward to.

Now my question is what does salvation have to do with anything in this life? What does that promissory note have to do with your day to day living? Does how you live here on earth affect your promissory note? Do the friends you keep and the acts you undertake affect your promissory note? Do the movies we watch and the food we eat affect our promissory note? Do the words that come out of our mouth affect that promise?

The thing is all the aspects I have highlighted affect us. The movies, and the songs we listen to, and the friends we keep, and the places we visit, and the closeness or distance we maintain with God; affects our heart. Salvation has everything to do with our hearts. If our hearts are foul, angry, malicious, bitter, unforgiving, then this will affect the state of the promise. It is so easy to feign love for others and a love for God. But the heart speaks. That is why salvation is directly linked to the heart. What is the state of your heart? The effectiveness of the promise of salvation is also dependent on us. And if we refuse to honor our part, we make that promise ineffective. We have everything to do with our salvation!

I hear people say ‘once saved, always saved.’ Please do not be caught up in this. Inspect your heart. It is like saying ‘I have a loaf of bread at home, I will eat it tomorrow,’ though the loaf of bread had been ignored for such a long time and was now moldy! Is your heart right? Are you obeying God? Do not ignore the state of your heart. And so I guess we should be living salvation everyday. We should be living the life to come even now by loving God and doing His will.

Now if we decide to live a life that loves God here on earth, there will be many things we do not do; many movies we will not watch; a great deal of profanity that we will not utter; clothes that will be inappropriate that we will not buy. That will be our lifestyle. And so salvation has everything to do with our lives here; it guides us for the other life to come.
