Stand firm
The Lord says: we must stand firm against the strong pressures and temptations of society. It will not be easy, but the alternative is deadly. It is not easy to stand in this society where we experience great pressures to conform and compromise; or even leave our faith. To compromise can be defined as a blending of two different qualities or principles.
We can cooperate with people as much as we can, but we must avoid any alliance, partnership or participation that will lead us to immoral practices. There is room for differences of opinions among Christians in some areas, but there is no room for heresy and moral impurity. Our city may not openly participate in idol feasts, but it condones pornography, sexual sins, cheating, gossiping and lying. We must not tolerate these sins or bow down to the pressure to be open minded about them.
Christ will rebuke those who do these or tolerate any sin that leads people away from Him. The sword of God’s judgment will come against those who are rebellious and permit these sins. The faithful will receive the spiritual nourishment to satisfy their deepest hunger. A stone will be given to those who are truly believers in Christ. This stone will be evidence that the person has been accepted in God’s kingdom and declared to be worthy to receive eternal life. A person’s name represents his or her character. God will give each person a new name and new heart in Jesus name.
