Anger

Anger

Psalm 4:4 says Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. It never says do not be angry; because God knows we will be angry at one time or the other. Life is by no means perfect; the people are fallen; they hurt each other. They stab each other in the back. They harm and deride, and so God knows offense will come, and anger will come also.

God knows that your emotions will rise and fall. They will brew and be like a raging wave. He however wants to trust you to control those emotions. Yes be angry, but what will you do with that anger? Some people get so angry they go to kill the person they are angry with. Some people rage and fume, they just can’t let go until they have brought harm. Even believers get angry and they act so contrary to Jesus’ nature. The carnal nature is let loose as anger is allowed to take hold. The new man is cut short during such an episode. God does not say we should not get angry, but what will you do with that anger? If you go ahead and act on your anger, that is a problem. If you go ahead and harm another due to that anger, then you would be grieving God.

God is love. He will forever be. He is righteous too. He knows we cannot survive if we do not change. Does God get angry? Yes. He got so angry that He destroyed the entire earth during the time of Noah. But God does not stop.

So how will you overcome anger?

Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. What does meditate mean? You will ponder, deliberate, and reflect on God. You will think and think and think on His word and promises. You will muse over who God is. We are not to think of what someone did to us; or muse and talk to others about what they did. We are to meditate on God and be still. As we develop a culture of doing this, then those pangs of anger will not be able to hold you; they will release us in Jesus’ name and let us go! Why? Because God would have already gotten a hold of us. Amen!
