Because You said…
Luke 5:5 says this: But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
At Your word Lord I will lower my nets again. I will trust You. I will let the nets down because of you. I will trust you. I will believe. I will cast this net into the deep. Though I worked all night, scoured all this bed, I will trust You. I don’t understand. But I will lower my nets for a catch.
What a declaration! Remember that Peter was already exhausted. He was worn. He was empty-handed, despite his toil. How many times have you got to a place where you just cannot be bothered anymore? You are far spent. You have used your last energy. You have nothing to give; nothing to show for it. And then Jesus says try one more time.
‘Try!’ You scream. You are justified for not wanting to try. But hear Peter. He said to Jesus, but at Your Word I will do it.’ Peter appreciated Jesus’ word. He knew how powerful, glorious, weighty Jesus’ word is. He knew the power of His word. He knew His word was not to be taken lightly. His word was not to be overlooked. His word was not to be forgotten. His word was not to be maligned. Yes, that is how important it is. No matter your state, you are to believe it and follow its lead. You are to hear and do accordingly. You are to hear it and apply yourself. No excuses!
So what if you did not catch any fish all night? So what if you caught nothing all year, or even two years? Now listen to His word. Listen to His command. Listen to Him and cast your net out one more time. Do it for yourself. Do it for your home. Do it for your family. Do it for your faith walk. Don’t hold back; don’t entertain any excuses.
I know your body aches. You have spent everything. I know. But don’t hold back. Cast your net. You would be worse off if you refuse to cast it at His word.
