You don’t have to carry your bags….
I am not talking of your Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Coach or Burberry. I am talking of ‘Life Bags’.
It is all so natural to carry our burdens ourselves. In fact if you are not carrying them, society sees you as weak. And so everyday we carry our burdens: our jobs and the problems we face there: the boss who has it in for you. We carry our children, them and their issues; we carry the pressures of finances, career expectations, educational aspirations, family relationships and romantic dramas we might have. We carry them all and wonder why we are tired and cranky. Carrying all of these lead to a joyless existence; one where we are forever chasing an elusive peace. We speak of it always, but never own it.
Jesus knew this would be the case. Peter said in 1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.I guess to do what Peter asks is to believe that Jesus cares. That He is concerned for us. Now many people struggle with this simply because people just don’t care. People don’t care if you live or die, if you are well or not – because they themselves are also struggling to keep their joy also – struggling to even have it at all. So if one is stuck in this mindset, then why believe that anyone cares, talk less of taking your cares.
I watched as some ladies carried bags on their bags and dragged some alongside down San Francisco Van Ness. That picture truly resonates. Nobody cares that they carried those bags. In fact if someone came to them asking to help carry their bags, they would be suspicious and decline. That is how we are. Unfortunately that is how we are to God. We are overburdened people. Burdened by our past, present and even fear of the future. Until we know how to give our cares to the Lord, trusting Him that He cares – we will always carry, always be overburdened, always carrying one thing or the other.
I want to inspire you today to trust God that indeed He really wants to carry your bags. I know that picture seems inconceivable; but it is true. He wants to carry your bags and He wants to take care of them. He wants to carry all your bags, regardless of shape and size. He wants you to bring your bags to Him. Many people see His deity and fear to take their dirty smelly bags to Him. They think He will judge them. But He wants them. He wants your smelly bags today. Trust Him and give them to Him rather than logging them wherever you go. That way you will have joy in your life. Have a Coke (or whatever drink you love) on God and smile while giving Him your bags today!
Happy Free Hands folks!
