God’s hand on Syria and other nations
It hurts my heart to see the carnage; the destruction and death in Turkey, Syria and other nations of the world. It is painful to see the desperation and the plight of the displaced. Young and old running for dear life. Babies dying on the waves of the ocean. Humanity has been reduced almost to rubble. There is no promise of the future for many lives. There is only sorrow to look forward to. Amos 1:3-5 comes to mind. God promised to punish Syria, and I believe that God is still watching over that word to perform it. God is still sending the fire of war, conquest, and destruction today. Indeed He is sending it to many nations. There is not one that is immune to God’ punishment.
The book of Amos speaks of the consequences of sin. Amos 1:3-5 – Thus says the Lord: For three transgressions of Damascus [the capital of Syria] and for four [for multiplied delinquencies], I will not reverse the punishment of it or revoke My word concerning it, because they have threshed Gilead [east of the Jordan River] with iron sledges. So I will send a fire [of war, conquest, and destruction] upon the house of Hazael [who killed and succeeded King Ben-hadad] which shall devour the palaces and strongholds of Ben-hadad. I will break also the bar [of the gate] of Damascus and cut off the inhabitant from the plain of Aven or On, and him who holds the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Syria [conquered by the Assyrians] shall go into exile to Kir, says the Lord.
God said He will punish Syria and send them into exile. Just what you are seeing today. God is still watching over His word.
May we not look at Syria and be quick to judge. May we not look at Turkey and point the finger. May we not think we are okay and that we ourselves are holy and righteous, and have no iniquity in us. May we be humble and repentant; and turn from our wicked ways, so that our iniquity can be forgiven.
My prayer is this: God have mercy on all of your creation. Have mercy on us.
