This is what God’s reward looks like…..
The Lord said to Abram in Genesis 14: ”Look at the sky…” Why did God want Abraham to look to the sky?
Prior to this statement, God had promised Abraham in Genesis 13:1 that He was Abraham’s shield and great reward. Abraham must have been thinking, “great reward”? What does that even mean? “I remain childless and a total stranger will inherit all God has blessed me with. What does shield mean? What does reward mean?”
God answered Abraham in Genesis 14:4-5, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your body shall be your heir.” Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to count them.” And He said, “so shall your descendants be.”
Wow!
This is what God’s reward looks like. This is what His blessings looks like. You have to look to heaven to see it. You can’t be looking for that reward elsewhere. Nothing is more fulfilling; nothing is more glorious, than the reward of God. Such a reward will break the bounds of every expectation you have; it will make everything you have done to this point small compared to what is yet to come from God. God said to Abraham, “Look up at heaven and count…” And then God quantified the counting: He said, “if you are able!” God was going to overwhelm Abraham’s mind and there was just no way on earth that Abraham would be able to reach the end of what God would do for Him. I don’t know about you, but this is my deep desire also. I want to know God, follow God, do His will, please Him, be counted as righteous, so that I am also looking up at heaven. I want to look up at what I cannot count because it is just too much. It is too much! Amen! God will do so much that I can’t come to the end of it. Amen.
We are chosen for a life such as this. I should not be surprised when I look up at heaven and I am overwhelmed by how much God is doing at this present minute. What is God doing now? I am enjoying writing for God. I am enjoying living for Him. I am enjoying the free-ness He has given me. I am enjoying the love for Him and others that He has put in my heart. I am enjoying the peace He has given me. I am enjoying just looking up. Yes, this can be a lifestyle.
What are you enjoying at this present time? Here we are going into the Thanksgiving season. Can you look back and then look forward, and then look into heaven and see the wonders that are still to be done in His name? This mere exercise is wonderful. I acknowledge that I was made to count the stars. I was made to behold God’s beauty and promises. I was made for a time like this, a season like this, an experience like this. Yeah, what excitement to have?
