How hot is hell???

How hot is hell?

Last week our air conditioning system broke down. Very quickly we realized that the house was getting unbearably warm. Our children began complaining. It was just too uncomfortable: muggy, stale and hot. Since the system decided to break down over the weekend, we had no quick help. We bought some fans; opened some windows and stayed out as much as we could. We had to tough it out!

And then I wondered about how hot hell is! I am not going there! And I pray that none of all those I know go there either! And yet hoping is not enough. There is something we have to do to ensure that does not happen. I can hope all I like, but if I do not give my life to Christ and live for God and have Him in my heart; it is not going to happen. I must love God. I am aware that hell is a furnace; a burning lake with no way out. In Luke 16:19-31 the rich ruler discovered that there was no air conditioner; no window; no door; no lever to pull comfort down. The ruler asked for a drop of water to calm his desperate need. He was unaware that there was a chasm between heaven and hell. This chasm makes any desired comfort impossible. It is spiritual suicide not to think of where one will spend eternity. That ruler enjoyed whilst on earth; he never for once thought of where he would spend eternity. He dressed in purple and fine linen, and lived in wealth. He ate the best of food; dined in the luxurious restaurants; lived in the palatial home; was driven around in the top-line vehicle. His life was good. The beggar suffered while on earth; but he must have done something right. He must have lived for God and pleased Him. I don’t know why he had to suffer. I don’t know why he was a beggar. Why do Christians suffer in this world? Maybe suffering is just a tool to make us pliable and expose us to what Jesus went through to be the door opener for us.

Having said this, I would rather please God than be the rich ruler. It is always too late to make a different lifestyle decision for those who have already gone. I pray we make the right decision today while on the face of the earth. And yes, hell is hotter than you can ever imagine. No bells and no whistles. No comfort!
