Love is a risk
Love is a thing of the heart. It is exposing the heart and allowing another to come in, and share. Love is powerful, because if enabled, it lets defenses down; tears down walls, and allows vulnerability. Love allows another to come in and enjoy, and glean, and take. Love is so unselfish that it will allow another to receive respite despite of. Love is always willing to give, always willing to pour out; always willing to relief the other.
Because of the nature of love, it is a risk. It is a risk to open your heart and love, and not be loved back. It is a risk to open your heart and trust, and be betrayed. It is a risk to open your heart and believe in someone else, and find later on that they were a phony, and did not love you back. A bit like falling in love with someone; gently you open your heart. You are afraid to open it at first. What if? What if they hurt me? What if they do not love me back? What if I am disappointed? Be careful… Those questions swirl in your heart. However, the heart is not ruled by the head. It opens once in love. It opens and opens and opens. Love and trust go hand in hand. They are the delightful cousins.
Love is a risk because it is blind. It thrives on being blind. No facts. No references. It makes its blueprint itself. It is a heart thing. If you try to base love on fact, then it is not love. It is manufactured. Love should make its own way. Love is powerful enough to do that if you trust it. Love is just simply trusting. It just goes along believing in the best!
And so you understand the gravity of God’s love for us. How vulnerable His heart was being exposed to us for the sake of loving us. He opened His hands and let us in. He exposed not only His heart, but His Son’s heart, and also His Holy Spirit – all three in one! He exposed the lot all for our sakes. And what do we do? Love Him back? Expose our heart to Him also? Give our all to Him? No! Most of the time, most of us stab Him in the heart. We ignore Him altogether. We disobey Him. And what does He do? He continues to expose His heart to us. One day, we will love Him like He loves us. One day…one day…one day.
What manner of love is this? Why the risk? Because He is love. He cannot do any different than who He is. He is love. God is love.
