Revealing yourself to God…
I hear myself praying “Lord, reveal yourself to me.” Then immediately I hear Him say “reveal yourself to Me.”
I must admit that when He answers me with the same request I have given Him, it makes me laugh. He can be a funny God at times. More than we realize. He speaks to us on our level, and personally, so we can relate to Him. So then I oblige Him and reveal my heart to Him. But why do we have to be reminded to do this over and over. I have now come to a place where I talk to Him all the time, but I wasn’t always like that. It takes practice talking to an unseen God.
You see growing up Catholic I was taught to say my prayers. Not say and listen. The Catholic lifestyle taught me a lot about reverence for God and how to discipline myself in prayer but it was a one sided relationship to me. Me sending up prayers and confessing a lot. Not understanding that He wanted to be in relationship with me and has a lot to say. So can you reveal yourself to Him for the purpose of Him revealing Himself to you? How “at ease” are you with talking to the Lord? It’s one thing to think about things, but a whole other ball game to speak them. There is something about speaking words out. It’s like a commitment. Because once we say something it’s like it spiritually ties itself to us. You can’t reverse words. You can say things to replace them or even apologize for them, but you can’t take them back. Even though the thoughts or feelings are in you, it’s what you do with the thoughts and feelings that determines your course. You see, if you don’t establish relationship and create conversation with the Lord, it may be a very long time before He tells you anything. And if you don’t express your feelings to the Lord then how can He reveal to you how He feels about your feelings? How can He tell you what He wants you to do about them?
So the question is what do you have to reveal to the Lord? You might be saying, “I don’t have to tell the Lord what’s on my heart. He knows my heart. He knows what is on my mind and even how many hairs are on my head.
I have to disagree with that statement. Out of sight and out of mind doesn’t work well with the Lord. The less we give thought to something we tend to forget about it. This is a dangerous place to be. We lose a sense of things in reality or even in the spiritual if we don’t confront our feelings and thoughts. We can even become captive by them; a prison in our minds so to speak.
We have to become vulnerable before the Lord. Making ourselves available and defenseless before Him; allowing Him to prune us and use us in a way that will bring about change. Good change. Why does He do this? Because He needs us to partner with Him to bring about that change. He needs us to partner with Him to bring about heaven on earth. He needs to know He can trust you, but even more so He wants you to trust Him.
So can He trust you? Can He trust you with His words and His works? Galah-(gah-lah) is the Hebrew word for “reveal” and in the present reference it means ‘The Lord is revealing His secret plans to His prophets, who are His servants and messengers. This can be anyone who seeks, abides in him and talks to him. Not everyone holds the office of a Prophet but all can prophesy.
Other usages for the word reveal refers to uncovering or nakedness. (Leviticus 20) And lastly an alternate usage means going away or departing into captivity, as though in exile, a stripping bare of life’s blessings.(2 kings 25:21) Look at Job for instance, The Lord allowed Job to be “stripped away” of everything so the Lord could drive him closer to Him and reveal Himself to Job and have His glory revealed!!! Then He multiplied the blessings. He is a jealous God and will go to extremes to bring His children back to Himself. In 1 Samuel 4:21,22 revealing meant the departing, literally stripping away of God’s glory from Israel. The Israelites suffered much “revealing” because of disobedience. That is still true for us today. The Lord doesn’t punish, He loves and because He loves He always reveals to heal or to bring change.
If the Lord has secret plans that technically aren’t written plain in His book then we need to go to the secret place to hear them. So to reveal means to uncover, to open and lay bare. Reveal means to expose or disclose; and He does this because He loves and trusts. His direction is for our protection. What is He revealing to you? Sometimes He doesn’t reveal things to you right away because He’s protecting or preparing you. Can He trust you with things? The things that are on His heart! Can He trust you with your healing? Can He trust you with your position, promotion, or your raise? Will you glorify Him with what He’s given you? Can you be the trusted messenger of His word and His works? He’s looking for people He can trust!
We have to reveal what is inside our hearts to the Lord even though He knows what’s in there. Then He will be able to reveal what He wants us to know. He wants us to reveal, disclose and expose some things to Him so He can ultimately strip away. Yes, the things that are not of Him.. He desires our fellowship, friendship, love and trust. When we love someone and they love us, we are more trusting with the things of our hearts. What are you willing to confront so He can help you deal with it or strip it away? Run to the secret place and abide in that relationship of intimacy where no one else can see. Just you and Him. Then allow Him to “reveal” Himself in you.
