Taking risks
Life is about taking risks. I call them risks; but really they are those things we do not because we are able to do them, but we do them because we are not able to do them. In the natural, we put our money in a stock that we feel has the potential of doing well. We project our wins and dump our money for a return down the road. That attitude in the natural is by instinct. There are many risks to be taken in life which will pay much dividends; on the other hand such risks could end up costing so much and become too much a do about nothing!
There are risks that our faith beacon at us to take. Risks such as the one Jesus suggested to Peter to take in Matthew 14:22-33. Jesus was walking on water. An inexplicable thing in the natural; Peter desired to have the experience; and Jesus asked him to take a risk. Risks are very frightening at times; they strip one of that most cherished comfort zone. Indeed, stripping makes one vulnerable. Peter felt so vulnerable due to the waves and storm that he focused on the waves rather than look at Jesus. It reminds me of when the Lord called us to come America. He asked us to leave England and go to serve Him in the United States. We were to take the risk of leaving our home-base; leaving our home, jobs, life; withdrawing our kids from school – and go to a foreign land. It was a risk. It was a proposal to walk on the water. It was a risk.
The difference with God is this, every risk you take is guaranteed by Him. It will work out just as He has planned it out. You can trust Him that whatever risk you have to take in His name will not ruin you; in fact it always lifts up; it always blesses; it always brings glory to God. If He is asking you to take a risk today; do not be afraid or petrified; be courageous and take the risk. He is the guarantor of your risk.
