Talking to someone who is not there…

This morning I had thought my husband was in the next room, and so I began talking to him about some matters. I spoke for a while and got no response; this was unlike him, we love talking and discussing various subjects. It then occurred to me that he was not actually in the room; in fact he was somewhere else in the house and so not within earshot.

My heart leapt as this realization came to me. How many times has God tried to talk to us and with us, and there we are because of the cares of life, we have left where we should be and gone elsewhere. A worry has led us away from hearing Him; fear has taken us away from listening; relationships that we have engaged in have stolen our peace and so we just simply cannot hear Him. Without hearing Him, how will we know what He wants to do with us and for us?
We have to get back into His space. We have to get back into His presence. We have to get back to a place where we desire Him and are able to hear Him. We have to be craving and needy of hearing God. We have to get back like the Prodigal son went back. There is no point staying afar; in a faraway room! Come close to Him. Invade His space. Let your worship invade heaven. Let your praise tear the barriers down. Let your hunger climb any wall. Let your position be close to Him! Get into God’s space!

God speaks. But there is no point Him speaking, if we are not listening or hearing. There is no point God speaking if we are so far away that what He is saying is not bearing fruit in us. I want God’s word to bear fruit in me! For it to bear fruit, it must be taken in. It must be consumed. It must be ingested. The way to take it in is to hear it! This reminds me of Romans 10:17 – So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Are you hearing God today? If not, relocate yourself close to Him. Refute all those elements that distract you and take you far from hearing Him. It is imperative that we get close, hear Him, and build our faith. There is nothing, absolutely nothing, that God cannot do for us. Nothing is impossible for Him.
