The ground will bring forth the seed that was sown
Imagine you being a farmer. You plant tomato. You have prepared your ground, and during the planting season, you diligently did the hard work, and planted your seeds. If you put an apple seed in the ground, then you expect an apple tree to grow. And if you put a tomato seed in the ground, then you expect a tomato plant to come forth.
It is all about what we put into the ground. And so we must be doing two things. One seeding. Are you seeding anything? Many people fail to seed. Because it is hard work and takes commitment. It takes not only preparing the ground and placing the seed in the ground, it requires tending and watering. It requires day by day care. Day by day remembrance of the obligation you have to this plant that is growing.
What you put in is what you get. If you sow an apple seed, you will get an apple plant and eventually an apple fruit. The state of the plant is up to you. If you refuse to water it, and ignore it for days, then your plant will be unhealthy. And if left for a long time untended, then you will have a diseased plant. I often wonder when people leave their faith walk untended and yet desire to be healthy. I wonder when we do not maintain a lifestyle of prayer, worship, godly fellowship – and yet we want to be healthy spiritually. It is practically and spiritually impossible to stay healthy after ignoring the seed for such a length of time.
I would be truly amazed if you planted an apple seed, and you get an orange plant out of it. I desperately watch myself, my life, my ways – making sure that the right seed is being planted, and every effort is targeted to an healthy growth.
My husband was and still is a Gardner at heart. He loved planting crops such as tomatoes, corn, pepper etc and so I remember when we will seed, with great effort we prepared the ground. We dug and cleared. And in time we placed the seed in the ground. Weeks went by, and we watered and watched. We were always watering and preparing for the harvest of fruit. In time, the fruits came, and we continued tending until they ripened.
That is our Christian faith. We seed the word in our hearts, tend and watch and water. And see God give us increase with much fruit. Amen. We must be ready to do the hard work so we grow.
