The little light

The little light

We had only just gotten home. I decided to go into our bedroom. The room was dark, except for a little light that shone in the corner of the room by the bed. I wondered where the light was coming from; since I do not remember us leaving any light on in our bedroom before leaving home. It was a tiny lamp that gave off the light. I was perplexed by the impact and effect of this little light in the entire bedroom. This lamp was not visible itself, but its impact was. It was not a huge light by any means, but its impact could be seen.

This got me thinking of the power of our light. We carry a light because we belong to Jesus, and His light burns in our hearts. We are light carriers. And so in this very dark world, our light should shine. It should glow. If that little lamp could impact that room, how much more an even greater light, totally drawn and inspired by the Lord. Our light should not be put out by the world. We should not allow the world to dim us up. The ways of the world: the movies, games, bars, clubs, books which are all inspired by hearts exposed to the joys of the world – in fact dim us. I am not saying we should not enjoy movies, games, etc. Yet a game filled with violence must not be our enjoyment, since it dims us a bit more. And a movie laced with sex, drugs use, curse words and innuendo will dim us some more. And when we enjoy drinks, and go to the bar again and again – then our light is in danger of being dimmed some more. And in time we are so dim, that when we are set in a room no one will be able to make out our light because we have allowed it to lose its power.

I encourage you to live a life that is totally rendered to the Lord so that your light will shine, and so impact your world.
