There is a cost for obedience and a cost for disobedience
Everything has a cost. It just depends of which cost you are willing to pay. Following Jesus has costs attached to it. Doing His will has repercussions. Being a Christian is not a walk in a park. It means you are living a life that obeys the word of God. It means you are a disciple; carrying your cross and following Him everyday. Obeying Him when it does not make natural sense; putting yourself in a vulnerable situation all because He is leading you. Turning your back on the pleasures of life if they will lead you to compromise on your faith in God. In Luke 14:25-27, Jesus spoke of the costs that we will incur following Him. He said you will have to put God above your brother, sister, father, mother, etc. You will have to put God above your life; above your desires; above your wants; above your ambitions; above you. And yet the promise is rewarding; life giving; a marriage made in heaven; we are His bride; joined beautifully by His love though we do not deserve it!
Can you bear such a cost?
And for those who refuse to obey God, they will pay a price too. There is a cost. The devil is in charge then. He has a few goals; to steal, kill and destroy. Everything he does will be an expense to those who refuse to obey God. The devil never blesses or adds anything good. When those who refuse to obey God think they have gathered, the devil will strike and steal. When they thought they had gotten away with their sinful choice, he will step in and destroy. That is how he destroys marriages, homes, relationships etc. He kills too! He will set up fatal car wrecks; deranged behavior to attack and kill; and the flukiest of accidents that don’t really make sense, simply to kill.
The different obedience choices lead to different costs being paid. And yet I wonder which one we would rather pick! Put God first, above all; or open a door for the devil to come and steal, kill and destroy.
