We the people

We the people

In Matthew 12:22-28 Jesus said a house divided cannot stand. He said a kingdom that works against itself will be desolate.

I watch these present times, especially as the elections loom near in America. It seems we have hit a perfect storm of a house being divided. The pending elections have enflamed the divisions, differences, long ago banished feelings. It will take an act of Godly love to love these days. It will take the heart of Christ to say a kind word to the other. It will take heroism to see the good in the other. People have set themselves to take different corners and positions. They are in a boxing ring, even Christians, and they are ready to battle their opponent, who really is just a fellow citizen. They do not seem to understand that this is still one nation under God; ‘indivisible.’

I pray that we will see what is happening around us. I pray that we will see that we are further dividing, breaking down, and tearing apart. It is life to have differing opinions, beliefs and points of view. It is not okay to stigmatize, or negatively label a child of God. We as Christians are supposed to bear this country up because we have been enlightened; yes, because the love of God has shone on our hearts. We are supposed to love and pray. James 5:16 says The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. Instead of us being worked up, angry, frustrated with how the nation is, we should get into our prayer closets and pray. Our prayers can be powerful and effective. Having said this, this capability only applies to the ‘righteous’. If we have joined in the present plight of denigrating, giving no grace, no love; then we are not righteous. Can we have the mind of Christ, even the mind of Paul… 1 Corinthians 9: 19 – Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

What a mind? He became a slave so he could win some! Can we do this!

We must get back to one house, one nation and one people. God does not see us as a nation within a nation. He does not see us as a different people. Though there were more than one tribe in Israel, there was only one Israel to God. He sees us (United States of America) as His people, who must be in one accord. It was only when they were in one accord in Acts 2 that the Holy Spirit was released. How can we expect God to revive our land, when we are not in one accord?

I encourage you to get out of the election fever; don’t be tempted to see anyone as the other. Go out of your way and maybe you will win someone for Christ for the sake of the Gospel today.
