The narrow walk

It is a privilege to walk the Christian walk. Especially in the days we are living in now on the earth. What great opportunities await us around every corner to love one another with such life style and cultural differences. We have prime opportunities to share the love of Christ with those who live a life lost and hurting.

Our personal walk with Christ must be focused and centered to accomplish the assignments He has set before us. I see it like a balance beam. There is a very narrow path to walk in order to stay perfectly in line. You must stay focused and centered. You must keep your physical eyes and mind eye on the target. With each step you take you must carefully place your feet with precision. You might tip toe along the edge for a bit or grab on with your heel or toes from the side, but not for very long before you throw your whole body and mind off. Because your focus has now become “how do I not fall” instead of “how do I get to the opposite end”. I’ve heard the term “become one with…” whatever it is you are engaging. Become one with the ball, the bat, the horse, etc. In this case you would need to become one with the beam. You must become so comfortable and good at walking that beam that you come to a place where you imagine that the beam isn’t that narrow or far off the ground at all. You must spend time on the beam, practicing your footing and even studying the subject or possibly another who has walked the beam for a long time. You too, can become disciplined to walk such a narrow path. You can become one with the path. This illustration reminds me so much of our walk with Christ and the day to day disciplines that go into fulfilling the walk. May we walk a walk like one who is on a balance beam. Disciplined, focused, and centered. Staying so focused and centered that we never fall. But if we do fall we know Jesus will be there to help us back up again and set us on our right path. He will even hold our hand and support us if need be. What a trusting and faithful Lord we have. He will never leave us nor forsake us.

Hebrews 12:7 It is for discipline that you endure.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
