The Appointed Time

There is an “appointed time” when God’s promise comes to pass. Habakkuk 2:2-3 says – Then the Lord replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.  For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it lingers, wait for it,  it will certainly come and will not delay.

We all have a revelation pertaining to our lives. We all have a herald running on our behalf also. And why? Because God has a purpose and a reason for each of us. Having said this, a few things must happen however to align us with our appointed time. We have to be aware of the revelation and believe it. And when we believe it, we align our lives around it because we believe it. This invariably leads us to waiting for that appointed time with all of our hearts, because we are now trusting God’s promise to come to pass. Note that I said everyone has a revelation for their life. I believe so. I believe you and I are here on the face of the earth for a reason. I believe everyone has a purpose and destiny. I believe God created us uniquely for unique purposes. I believe for a time like this I am here. If we fail to see the revelation pertaining to our individual lives, then we just live day in and day out, meandering into each and every day, with no purpose, no direction, and nothing bigger and greater in God to attain.

I am excited to know that small, weak and mortal things can be used by God.  I am excited to see how God uses simple things to bring His plan alive. It is instructive to see how God uses weak vessels to do great things. Yes, those weak things that will believe and trust Him. Those weak things that will allow Him to be strong. Those weak things that will allow Him to be exalted. Those weak things that will wait for the appointed time.

It is imperative to note that the appointed time speaks of an end that cannot be proven wrong. The end that God’ sees for you  cannot be made false by anything on earth or in heaven. And so why do we fret? Why do we worry? Why not wait for the appointed time? Why not wait for the Lord?  We often get tired of the waiting. We get tired of waiting faithfully. We get tired of watching out for that time when all will align, but we must remember that the raven which Noah let out of the ark in Genesis 8:6-7 did not get a place to rest itself until the waters receded. It kept going back and forth for the appointed time. After this Noah let out a dove, who also returned because the appointed time was not yet. The bible tells us in verse 10 that Noah let the dove out again after seven days, and this time it found favorable conditions; it found the appointed time, and was able to pluck an olive branch signifying the peace of God was on the land.  The waters receded at the appointed time. Though Noah and his family were itching to get out of the ark, they wanted to get to dry ground, they were tired of waiting; they had to wait for the appointed time. Thank God for the appointed time; you also can wait for a few days longer and let the dove out again. There is no coming out of the ark until there is an olive branch.

Many of us refuse to wait and get into precarious circumstances. You do not want that!  We certainly want to enter God’s rest. We want to enter what He has provided for us. Elijah also had to wait for the appointed time in 1 Kings 18:42-43 when the rain was to be released from heaven after three and a half years. His servant kept going back and forth until the seventh time before seeing the little cloud about the size of a man’s hand rising from the sea. There is an appointed time when what has to happen will not be delayed. Pending this, keep looking out with joy and expectation. Do not be anxious, bothered, afraid, while waiting for the appointed time. Wait with joy and thanksgiving!
