Claiming God’s promises

Imagine you losing your keys. You search and search and search; and then you retrace your steps and go to the lost and found counter; there it was along. You just had to claim it. Many times we are searching for something. We keep asking God, ‘where is it. You promised me. You promised me many months ago.’ And then we get frustrated that we have not received it. We lose hope after a while. We get demoralized and then we stop seeking God and stop believing that we will ever get what we so much desired. We say to ourselves, ‘what is the point?’

Have you ever done this? I am reminded of Sarah, who was so old; and even Abraham, who was even older! God promised them a child. Abraham wanted to believe. In fact, he did! His wife couldn’t bring herself to believe that word, and laughed. She laughed at the promise. Sarah’s attitude is a bit like ours today. Why did Sarah laugh? She must have had the dream once to have a child. But life happened. She was barren and then grew old. Time had passed. And she lost the dream. That dream of her holding a baby was too far stretched. She could not see it anymore; and so she lost that dream for both herself and her husband. She laughed the dream off. But to God a promise is a promise. God keeps His promise! He watches over His promise. I encourage you to go and claim your promise; never laugh it off!
