A day like Sodom’s
Be clear-eyed as you spend sometime thinking of what happened in Sodom and Gomorrah. God waited and waited, and listened to Abraham intercede and intercede. Abraham practically begged God to have mercy on the nation for the sake of 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, even 5 righteous people. And then one day the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah became too much for God to bear: their lies, waywardness, violence, unfairness, callousness, greed, fraud, etc.
God commanded two angels to destroy Sodom & Gomorrah; not an army of angels, just two! God rained sulfur from heaven and it burnt the entire city leaving all in ashes. The inhabitants could not restore, retrieve, or save anything; the fact was they could not save even themselves! God is deliberately merciful, and He is still deliberately merciful today. My prayer is that we are not complacent and taking God for granted. My prayer is that we do not trample on His mercy, as this will hasten the hands of those angels. My ever present comfort is that God is gracious, and the same grace He showed Lot and his family is available today. God’s grace is full of love, such deep love that He pulled Lot and His family out of the path of sure destruction.
I call all believers to do two things: one, make sure you are living right before God who searches the heart of a man; make sure you love like He does and have the heart of God. Yes, be one of the 50, 40, 30, 20, 10, even 5. Two, I ask you to pray. The time is so short (shorter than you think), and it is necessary to be awake in such a time as this.
