Learning how to use the simple things in your life

God is sure that your problems will not let you go that easily. He is sure that issues (e.g., debt, habits, disappointments etc.) will not let you go that easy. How many times have you wished you did not say what you just said? How many times did you think, I will not over eat, not smoke again, not lie again, not visit that website again, not judge others etc. How many times have your go-to habit shamed you?

God said to Moses in Exodus 3:20-21 But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless a mighty hand compels him. So I will stretch out my hand and strike the Egyptians with all the wonders that I will perform among them. After that, he will let you go.

God knows that the issues will not let you go easily; no, not without a fight. But He is prepared to fight for you through those issues. He is prepared to stretch out His hand through your weaknesses, illnesses etc. He said to Moses, ‘I will stretch out my hand and strike!’ God wants to strike at what afflicts you. Not only does He want to strike at it, He wants it to be your stepping stool. He wants to use that issue to bless you. He said he will make the Egyptians favorably disposed toward this people, so that when you leave you will not go empty-handed. Every woman is to ask her neighbor and any woman living in her house for articles of silver and gold and for clothing, which you will put on your sons and daughters. And so you will plunder the Egyptians.”

Most of the time we become paralyzed by our problems and we are unable to see beyond at how God can use these things that afflict or make us stumble as a lever to lift us up. In this case our perspective must change. We have more than we think we have; we do not only have problems, we also have solutions in God. In Moses case, his rod was the solution if he allowed God to use it. Satan has deceived us long enough that all we have are problems. He deceives us into believing we will drown in them. He never points out our rod. He never asks us to use it as God commanded Moses in Exodus 5:2 “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. The LORD said, “Throw it on the ground.”

Basically, God reminded Moses that He has what it takes to overcome his issues. Just like we have what it takes to overcome our problems today. Have you looked at yourself lately and identified your rod? What is your rod? Your rod can be so ordinary that you don’t even consider its worth. Same with Moses, he did not see his rod of worth. He did not see how precious that rod is, and neither did he know that God uses the simple things to confound the wise. He did not see how small things like five loaves of bread and 2 fish could be worthy in the eyes of God. Look again at yourself and identify your rod. Stop looking for fantastic things; look for the simple unique thing that God has given you. Then use it!
