You can break the curse

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 – Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

Jabez was cursed from birth, or so his mom had thought. She had given birth to him in pain; such pain that it was enough to name him pain. Every time she called him she remembered the pain she went through. Every time she looked at him, he reminded her of the anguish. I am sure Jabez was aware of this. He was aware of his stain; he was aware of what he stood for. He could feel it, smell it, and taste it. It was his life. His life was painful to others, and I am sure painful for himself also.

Do we have to keep living with a generational curse? Do we have to live with sickness? Do we have to live with being penniless, struggling to pay our bills, struggling with creditors? About struggling with relationships? Why should we live with generational marital issues? Why should depression continue? Why should cancer rear its head? Why should drug use and alcoholism continue in our lives? So how do you break this yoke in your life?

Jabez teaches us: Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.

You have to cry out to God. What is the issue? We spend more time talking to others about our problems than to God. Jabez asked specific things: bless me and enlarge my territory. Why was he asking for this? I believe he was aware that people had made a determination to avoid him because they identified him with pain. He was asking God to enlarge his influence, give him favor before men. When you are enlarged by God you will be prosperous. Man will give you if they want to or not? You will just have to get the job. Recently I was preaching in England and the Lord gave me a word for a young lady to make a career change, and that He would bless her. It was a huge change. However she believed Him at His word. A couple of days ago she reached out to me, God enlarged her and gave her a new job as He had promised.

Jabez also asked that the hand of God be with him and keep him. Though Jabez was asking for God’s hand to be on his life, he was also making a promise here, that he will not wander from God’s hand. You don’t ask God to put His hand on you and keep you, when you already have plans as to where you want to go and have ideas of what you want to do. You only ask God to put His hand on you if you will allow Him to guide you. Amen.

I pray that Jabez’ prayer will be yours no matter what you might be going through. I join you in this prayer that all curses that might be operating in your life be broken in Jesus name. I thank our great and mighty God who grants our request. Psalm 65:2 says this about our God: You who answer prayer, to you all people will come.

Yes, God will break every curse with His blessing. Amen.
