Despite the low point, you still have God’s value…?

Despite the low point, you still have God’s value…?

I have met a lot of women in my meetings suffering through the breakdown of their homes. Women continue to stand on the word of God though their husbands have left home to be with another woman. They continue standing on the word of God, petitioning God to glorify His name, despite the blatant sin that has broken down their homes and negatively impacted their children. Some wonder and question why; why should such a sin be tolerated? Why?

It must be noted that marriages break down for a variety of reasons: irreconcilable differences, financial stress, adultery, ill health, etc.

I want to stay with the premise of adultery in this piece.

Why can a man who professes Jesus as Lord, and still does via facebook breadcrumbs, able to stand with a straight face and justify such actions? How does such a man who is still married to his wife, has left home and is living happily with a mistress, able to confidently quote scripture on the web and maintain a status in church life, as though he is not complicit in sin? Please note this is a rhetorical question, not a judging exercise. This piece is to ask questions of the heart, with the hope that we allow God to steer our ship right.

I once listened to a message by Derek Prince where he spoke of God hating pride. I can see why God hates pride, and why he resists the proud according to James 4:6. When we are humble, God gives us the grace to deal with situations we might be in, have been in, or are to encounter. He knows we are weak. He promised to help us out. We need His grace to have happy homes, happy lives, and live a life pleasing to God. We cannot do it by ourselves. However when we are proud, we do two things: we do not receive His grace to be able to live whole lives, and two, He resists us. In a case where a spouse is entering or has started an adulterous affair, this act is called sinning. There is nothing righteous about adultery according to James 4:4 ‘You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God’. These are consequential words, and certainly removes any ambiguity regarding God’s view to committing adultery. Scripture states that we expose ourselves to becoming an enemy of God. We have to read the word of God, know it, digest it, so we do not have a false righteousness.

God will not change. He is holy. The only way I know to be holy is by being obedient to God’ word. And the only way to be obedient, is by being humble to Him. Now let us go back to Philippians 4:6-10: But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

To hold a Christian home, we must pay attention to doing the following: be humble and submit ourselves to God: husband, wife and child; actively resist the devil in our lives (examine our interaction in the family unit, examine what we allow to enter the home [TV programes, music, phone chatter], examine friendships we engage in, examine our interactions in the workplace, etc); draw near to God (attend Bible study, pray in our homes etc); wash our hands regularly (this means confess our sins one to another); make an effort to purify our hearts by reading the word of God regularly; don’t doubt and be double minded etc. When we do all of these, we will see that it is our nature to be faithful to our God and our spouse. Of course we cannot force our husbands to do the right thing, but we pray that God will sear their hearts for the glory of His name. Amen.

As for the many women I have encountered who are hurting, I encourage you to wait on the Lord and let Him renew your strength. Above all do not lose your confidence in God or even the worth God has given you. Put all your cares on the Lord, and He will take care of you and your children. He still has great things for you to experience and to do for Him. Yes, He still has great things for you.
