Fullfillment

Fulfillment is another word for accomplished. It means attaining the target or objective. It means going all the way.

Many people in life do not feel fulfilled. They do not feel that they attained the very reason why they were born. Many people try, but the instances of life debar many from attaining. And this blight of non-fulfillment can become a scourge that determines how they see themselves.
Fulfillment is a big word. It is a word that says that you saw something succeed. And yet fulfillment and success are in their own right unique quantitative measurements. They are not easily determined. The question is not did I fulfill my dreams? The question is what am I doing to fulfill my dreams? Am I taking those baby steps…those little steps that are not distinguishable. Not easily celebrated.

Life is about those baby steps. Life is about climbing that mountain one step at a time; one foot before the other. Life is not made up of running past; you can’t run past being a toddler, you can’t run past being a middle schooler; you can’ run past being a teenager; you can’t run past a marriage, a college degree; a sickness etc. You will have to live it; take those steps and continue to take them.

And so do not be discouraged while taking those steps and seeing no change. You are actually getting closer to fulfillment than you think. You are getting closer to the finish line. You are getting closer to success.

I understand. You have been doing it for a long time. And maybe you feel ‘How long before you see fulfillment? ‘ People are starting to wonder about you. They are starting to make up their mind that you are not successful, though you are taking those small steps. And because of their grimaces you deem your small steps null.

A friend asked me recently. ‘I want to write a book. But when I sit to write, I get overwhelmed by the gigantic prospect ahead of me. What do I do?’ I told her not to look at the gigantic prospect, and neither to think of it in terms of writing an entire 200 page book. Think in terms of paragraphs. Think in terms of fulfilling that commitment. And be happy at the success of completing that paragraph. And then move on to the next paragraph. With enough paragraphs you will have a chapter. With enough chapters you will have written your book. That is fulfillment. One step at a time.

Fulfillment is a child losing one tooth and growing another. Fulfillment is not achieved when the child has lost all his or her teeth and grown them all back. It is one tooth at a time. One process at a time. One small step.
