God wants a restoration between us and Him…

Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. 2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. Isaiah 59:1-2

Just imagine a long hand that is unending; yes that is God’s hand. It goes with you everywhere. It goes before and after. It protects, saves, blesses, makes a way. It is important that we have God’s hand operational in our lives. In fact it is imperative that the hand of God is working to its fullest in our lives. ‘Lord, may Your hand come! Touch me today!’ This above scripture promises us that God’s hand is not short! It has no limitation. It stretches as far as the eye can see and even more for us!

Having said this of His long hand, what can stop it? Is there anything that can stop it? Is there any reason at all why God will refrain from using His long hand? Why will God not listen to our prayers? Why will He refuse to listen when we call? Is it automatic that God listens to us? Why will He not listen at times?

When we choose to live sinful lives, we separate ourselves from God. As mighty and powerful as God’s hand is; its power cannot help someone who willfully chooses to sin. I remember going to the mall with our son many years ago. He is one of those with a sweet tooth. There was a candy dispenser at the mall. It charged 25 cents for each candy. Our son got a quarter from us and dispensed a candy. He then pleaded for another one, we agreed. He decided he wanted a third; we refrained. In as long as he had the quarters, the dispenser would keep giving him one candy after the other. God is not a dispenser. He is not going to give us what we want when we ask for it, just because we have a ‘quarter like’ prayer. He will not listen if all we do is sin, sin and sin, and then come running when there is a problem. In such a scenario, we cry and lament, and wonder why God is punishing us. He isn’t. He is just being a dutiful Father, like we were dutiful parents to our son.

Did our son like the fact that he did not get his candy when he wanted it? No. Did he feel we were horrible to him? Yes. He just could not see past the candy. But we did. We saw the pain some rotten tooth would soon give him. We saw that he was getting greedy; we saw that there was no self-control.

Yes, God can say no to you. And if He does, He has a good reason. If you are in such a place where you feel God is not hearing you, then ask Him why. And as He reveals the reason to you, go back and make things right. That is what He wants; a restoration between you and Him.
