Know your value

What is your value? How much do you think you are worth? I am not insinuating worth moneywise. I am probing you to think along self-worth track. And even if we were to think of worth in money terms, will you be worth 5 million dollars? Will you be worth 50 dollars? Do you give yourself away cheaply? Do you see your time as valuable? Do you see your health as valuable? Do you see your friendships as valuable?

Many of us have to start attaching a greater value to our lives. We have to attach value to everything we do. Is there value in what I am doing? Is there value in this job? Is there value in this relationship?

The problem is when we allow the world to determine our value. The bar of the world is very low; casual sexual encounters are the order of the day; shallow friendships are what the world knows; grievances are the world order. And so when the world determines our value; it determines it based on its own benchmark. The problem is that its benchmark is not Godly. Its benchmark grieves the Holy Spirit of God. And so our error is when we allow the world to haggle our value down; it will haggle your value down because your godly value is unattainable for it.  Your value to get married before having sex is unattainable to the world. Your value of not gossiping is unattainable to the world. Your value of not being greedy or covetous is unattainable to the world. Your value to love others as yourself is unattainable to the world. It just can’t do it!

And so I have long come to the conclusion that the world has no business haggling me down. I am going to stick to my guns. I am going to stick with my godly values. I am not going to lessen them to please anyone. After all, what does it mean if I run the race only to lose it at the end. Know your value in God and stick with it!
