MSG = Massaging Scripture is Godlessness

MSG is used in the food industry as a flavor enhancer that intensifies the meaty, savory flavor of food. I am sure I have eaten many dishes laden with MSG. Of course the food tasted great, but I however was consuming an enhancer; something that removed the blandness and deceived me into thinking that the food tasted better than it actually did.

MSG can be used in whatever context you want. There is a spiritual MSG, where we dumb down God’ requirement that we be holy and righteous. MSG affords us to talk of the cross as though it never had a consequence for the One who went on it. We accept the grace that drips from the cross and yet we go without a heart-change. I would have been fooled into thinking it was okay to live the same lifestyle I had before knowing Him. But since the Lord Himself has revealed His way, I now know what does not please God. No massaging the word to continue in the same lifestyle. No massaging the word to receive grace but no heart-change. I have come to this decision because I want more of God.

I am challenged by the MSG that I perceive today; massaging the word of God so it will be palatable to others, and to even us (Christians). It is a loss if we do not demand of ourselves the high standards that God’ word requires. We MSG ourselves to believing there are no demands on us, all because of the grace of God. In essence MSG can hold us bondage to our past lifestyle, ad ensure we never break free into what God has for us.

I sense it must be a demand we choose to place on ourselves. It must be a demand we choose to engage with through the help of God Himself. It is time we say to ourselves ‘I will not lie. I will not cheat. I will not gossip. I will not hold others in disrepute. I will not say anything to get my way. I will love God will all my heart and love others. I will not demean others because of what they believe in. I will not look down on others because they are different. I will be a giver. I will be generous. I will be compassionate. I will care for the displaced and needy without judging them. I will not slight others. I will love all peoples.’ Yes, let us demand these of ourselves!

I also must remember that MSG is a lie of the enemy.
