What a time?
What a time?
There is no reflection point as when you turn the page. We can turn the page on many things and for many reasons. We usually turn the page when we have done reading the content of a page in a book and want to find out what comes next. It is a bit like turning the page on the day or month or year. Turning a page on a year can be quite fun and impactful as you have by God’ grace gone through 365 days and seen the end of the year. You have seen January and turned 12 pages on each of the months, and now it is time to turn the page on the entire year. Are you ready to turn the page on 2019? How have the pages of 2019 been for you?
The pages of 2019 have been mixed. I have experienced God’s blessings, protection, power, love and mercy. I have also experienced some surprises; but above all I have experienced God’s authority to calm the waves. This is what we want effective in our lives. God’s authority. When God’s authority is effective, I mean it has total reign, then even if the waves of the sea toss, they will eventually calm down. And why? Because of God’s authority.
As we turn the page on 2019, I crave more and more of God’s authority in my life. I am aware that to have God’s authority fully functional requires that I subject myself to His authority. I have to do what Romans 12:1 says: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. And so as I turn this page on 2019, this scripture stands right and center on my mind. I am not going into an unknown time, unknown age, unknown year. God knows every day, moment of 2020. The same God who was faithful, protective, and merciful, is in charge of 2020. I just have to give Him full control and yield my days ahead.
I am using the last few days of the year to reflect on 2019, and hone in on what I can do better. I believe I can do better. We can do better than we did in 2019. What ways can you do better in 2020? Please don’t just turn the page. Ask yourself some profound questions. Ask yourself questions only you can ask yourself, and most certainly answer. What did you procrastinate on? What areas could you have shown more of the fruits that live in you (i.e., love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.)
I am so ready. Not because 2019 has been hard and I am trying to flee from it. I am just excited because I feel if God can do what He did in 2019, and I know He is forever faithful, then He is going to do even more in 2020. I hope you are excited and full of anticipation as you enter this watershed year.
So why do I call 2020 a watershed year? I believe it is a year when the waters will part ways; when heaven will ask more of us; when many of us will come to a turning point; when many of us will look closely in the mirror; when many of us will have to make the right choice (God’s choice); when many of us will choose love over ideology; choose mercy over politics; choose humility over pride; choose forgiveness over malice; choose faithfulness over compromise; choose God over all else. What a year to look forward to!
Praise God.
