When God called us to leave England and go to America

There is nothing you will do for God that will be easy. God has the right to call His child to do anything that He pleases. Scripture says all are called, few are chosen. Only few are chosen because only few will answer the call. The call of our great big God. I can understand why; and though I understand, yet I cannot say it is the best choice.

I remember when God called us to leave our lives in England to come and serve in America. We had been praying December 2003, asking God what He had for us to do. He said ‘You will go to America. Revival is coming.’ We were taken aback. Most especially because we had never visited America. Why us? What were we to do? We owned our home… What about our children? What about our careers? Our established lives… Well God knew all that.

Many are wondering the same too… and might find it hard to make sense of God’s call. His call preempts us to undo, unwind, shift, change, dig up, excavate, uproot etc. You get the picture. I remember the day we were to leave our home all because God said. It was a cold day in January 2005. We loaded up in a taxi van, going to the airport; going into an unknown that God called ‘revival’. Our children looked at us, all four, hoping we knew what we were doing. We knew and yet did not know. We heard; yes we heard Him. It is often hard to put into words what you heard, because most times, people who hear you might not understand. We barely understood ourselves. I was very meditative that morning as was my husband. We heard God. If you are not careful, you would doubt His call. God is a Spirit. He calls you to invite you to a higher place; a higher purpose; a greater faith. He calls us to follow Him; and trust Him to lead us. That was what we did.

Before we drove off that early morning, I walked back to the door to our home, kissed it; looked into the skies and said ‘Lord, we have obeyed.’

You know, has there being bumps? Yes. Have we seen a harvest in people’s lives? Yes. Have we seen God touch, change, deliver, set free, renew? We have seen God deliver people from incurable illnesses. Yes. We have seen it all. And though God has done such a work through us, I can testify that He has done a work in us also!

I just can’t imagine not going? I can’t imagine putting our home, our carriers above God. I can’t imagine when God says ‘Go’, us refusing to go!

We have been the better for our obedience. God has been gracious these past 11 years. What a journey; you say ‘yes Lord’, and enter into this realm where all is infinite in His hands. And I am sure God is going to ask us to do other things. Yes, because He is God and He has plans. Also His ways are higher than our ways.
